DVD Review: Let's Get Skase
by Sally Murphy

Australian comedy.

Australians love comedy, almost as much as they love the thrill of the chase. Let’s Get Skase combines a healthy mixture of both.

Directed by Matthew George, and starring Lachy Holme, Alex Dimitriades and Craig McLachlan, Let’s Get Skase is a fun Aussie comedy, not to be taken too seriously. It is full of one liners, larrikinism and over the top action.

After the complete collapse of his Qintex empire, Christopher Skase escapes to the Spanish Island of Majorca, leaving angry creditors high and dry. Enter Peter Dellasandro (Lachy Hume), a fast-talking con man and failed entrepreneur who sees the “Chase for Skase” as a potential gold mine. With an assembled bunch of misfits and miscreants, Dellasandro is ready to take on the world – or, at least, Skase.

The fact that the film is about Skase, and hence loosely related to real events, does not make it in any way a reality drama. Nor is the use of Skase’s name and background an essential part of the film. Any villain would do as the central force in this comedy.

Let’s Get Skase is available on DVD from Roadshow Entertainment from April 10. The DVD features an exclusive audio commentary by Writer/Director Matthew George and writer/Lead Actor Lachy Hume. Also featured on the DVD are previously unseen deleted scenes, a theatrical trailer and scene selection. Let’s Get Skase is presented in 16:9 wide screen format, with Dolby Digital 5.1 sound and English subtitles for the hearing impaired. The DVD runs for approximately 97 minutes and is rated M15+.
