One of the few drawbacks of the relatively modern DVD technology is that so many wonderful films are not available in this format, having predated it. Roadshow Entertainment helps to ease this problem by releasing classic films on DVD. Two of Roadshow's recent DVD releases are The Red shoes and Caddie.
Made in 1948, The Red Shoes has been labelled one of the best films ever made. The film tells the story of a young ballerina (Moira Shearer), who must choose between her romantic attachment to composer Julian Craster (Marius Goring) and her professional life, dominated by the impresario Lermontov (Anton Woolbrook). Australias' contribution to this film is in the form of the choreographic talents of our own Robert Helpman, who dances in the film and also choreographed part of the show. Made in 1976, Caddie is the story of a young woman (Helen Morse> who leaves her husband because of his infidelity, and takes a job as a barmaid to support her family. As well as Morse, familiar faces include Jack Thompson, Jacki Weaver and Akis Emmanuel. Both DVDs include special features such as trailers, scene selection and commentaries, subtitles for the hearing impaired and more. Great titles for collectors. The Red Shoes (1948) and Caddieare available to own on DVD from October 16, 2002, from Roadshow Entertainment. Other Great Australian DVDs Blood Oath, starring Bryan Brown Secret Bridesmaid's Business, starring Helen Dallimore and Meg Lehman Seachange, series 1. |
