DVD Review: Changi
Reviewed by Sally Murphy

Logie Award winning drama.

When the six episodes of the ABC televisions series Changi aired in 2001, Australia was treated to a war series different and superior to all that had gone before it.

Now available on DVD, Changi follows the stories of six young Australians who go to war to fight for their country, full of bravado and a sense of adventure. When Singapore falls in 1942 they find themselves interred in the Japanese prisoner of war camp in Changi, where they manage to survive for three and a half years. Amidst the harshness and deprivation, their strength and their sense of humour are vital to their survival.

The script for Changi took four years to be written by John Doyle (also known as Rampaging Roy Slaven). The series features an outstanding cast including Stephen Curry, Leon Ford, Anthony Hayes, Bill Kerr, Desmond Kelly, Bud Tingwell and many more. Directed by Kate Woods (Looking for Alibrandi, The Farm), Changi captures a great array of human expereince - life, death, comedy, tragedy, dreams and more.
