CD Review: ABC Kids Summertime Songs
Reviewed by Sally Murphy

An upbeat compilation.

Today's kids seem to be demanding 'real' music at an ever-younger age. Rather than nusery-rhymes or character-driven offerings, they want to listen to music like they hear on the radio.

Summertime Songs will appeal to kids because it is filled with these kinds of songs. Most of the tunes on this compilation will already be familiar to them, having been in the charts in recent years and still receiving radio airplay. At the same time, there is enough novelty for it to be still new and a little different than the expensive chart-compilation albums that seem to fill record-store shelves.

There are fourteen upbeat offerings, mostly relating in some way to the theme of summer, including Hot Hot Hot, Twisting by the Pool and Macarena. There are also two tracks which have both a vocal and a karaoke version for kids to sing along to, and a couple of oldies that kids will be less familiar with, but still enjoy, including Itsy Bitsy Teeny Weeny Yellow Polka Dot Bikini.

This is an energetic compilation, prefect for parties and dancing, likely to appeal to primary aged children.
