CD Review: Get the Party Started Volume 2
Reviewed by Sally Murphy

Real music for kids.

Too old for the Wiggles, and other child-appropriate bands, yet not quite ready for some of the language and content of supposedly main-stream music, tweens may find themselves not catered for in the music market. ABC Kids aims to fill that gap with Get the Party Started Volume 2, with 14 tracks suitable for the 6-12 year old age group. The songs have been chosen for their appeal to tweens and, at the same time, their suitability in terms of content.

With tracks including Will Smith’s Switch, Gwen Stefani’s Rich Girls and Vengaboys We Like to Party, all relatively recent releases which kids will be familiar with, as well as some older numbers such as We Will Rock You, the Macarena and Walking on Sunshine there is plenty of music to get kids up and partying.

For parents and adult supervisors, it is refreshing to know that the songs have been screened to avoid offensive content. Karaoke-mad youngsters will enjoy the fact that two of the tracks, Beautiful Soul and Since U Been Gone have karaoke versions at the end of the album, with lyrics included on the inside cover.

Good for kids’ parties.
